Talking back

I’m very excited.

Not just because today’s comic was done last night and was posted via automatronic server-side scripts. Not just because I’m going to be seeing some good friends of mine for the next few days. Not just because we’re about to be rocketed into super-stardom by all the FML visits we’re soon to have bestowed upon us.

No, I’m happy because this summer feels like a summer. People who have been out of school for a few years understand this feeling. To a person who isn’t bound to a scholastic schedule, summer is nothing but hotter weather and higher gas prices. But my schedule of events (visiting Pittsburgh on the 4th, going to Maine for my birthday, attending Connecticon) has got me filled with a sense of excitement that I haven’t felt in ages.

It’s awesome, and I hope that you guys can get a little bit of that up in you.

Of course, given the kinds of jokes we tend to make, our audience is very likely in high school (or pre-school) and therefore would not be privy to this feeling. To them, summer time is always a magical season, with time off from school, light beer and heavy petting. Why wouldn’t they be aroused at the mere mention of July and August?

See that? Another joke for the kids.

Here’s a quick tip: If you ever find yourself feeling too self-confident and content, sit down and write a quick essay about how awesome you are and how you came to be that way. Your self-esteem will shrivel up like a snail in a salt mine. The FML people have asked for a bio to help flesh out their article, and I’m having a very difficult time with it. How did I get here? How the fuck should I know!? I was drunk most of the time. I’m the last person you should be asking.

I’m not worried about it. The typed word is my preferred communication medium, and frankly it’s where I shine.

Paul is working on some portraits of us for the article, which is his preferred method of communication. I took some reference photos today for him. I might share them with you, someday. When you’re older.

I'll tell you, I totally understand what you mean about the whole summer thing. It's pretty rare for summer to feel any more special than other seasons. Hell, for me, weekends don't even feel more special or fun than weekdays in most cases. It's kind of sad to think about…

Well, summer here in Finland is most definitely something to look forward to every year, regardless of whether you are a student or not. Granted, that's mostly because of the cold, COLD winter we get up here. Even now I'm freezing my ass off, and I'm INSIDE MY HOUSE. Damn old buildings and their poor insulation and heating :D . Awesome comic btw, been reading through the archives for the past few days now!
