Apple announced that they releasing iPhone, Mark 2. This is because they hate me. Well, their hatred probably isn’t directed toward me, being that I live in a subterranean complex and I steal all of my gadgets from unsuspecting Best Buy employees, but one of our top-side correspondents certainly feels the hate. iPhone 2.0So, I’m going to post a rant he sent me here.

iPhone 2.0. The software package is great. The best in software developers have been working with the SDK since earlier this year, and now the fruits of their labor are being turned into sweet Apple Juice™.

The hardware upgrade is what’s got me really pissed off. They slashed the price, again, and now it’s running on the 3G wireless protocol.

Shit. Just… shit. Even if they give me a $100 credit, what the hell am I going to do with it? I mean, that’s just 1/3 of the price of a 16GB iPhone 2.0!

I can’t sell my current one, because it cost me $500, and the new one has significantly improved hardware, so who’s gonna buy it? I wouldn’t even know what to ask for it. Maybe someone would snatch it up for $150 and not notice it’s of the previous generation.

Of course, what pisses me off the most is that I know that this is progress. The first iPhone was 8 GB and sold for $600. A year later, you can get double the disk space and faster data service for half the price.

But if demand wasn’t so high for those first gen phones, then these other ones might not have gotten developed. And we have to remember that Apple is actually due some credit here.

They had a superior device in development, but the current iteration was selling just fine. Instead of selling the iPhone 1.0 for 3 years, until they had exhausted demand, and then selling everyone the 2.0 model anyway, they bring it out earlier because they know it’s a product we all want.

So, I’m torn, between wanting to drink the Apple Juice™ and wanting to not feel incredibly stupid for having bought my iPhone 6 weeks ago.
